Terms and lessons are the foundation of your academy's schedule. A term is a date-bounded enrollment period; lessons are what students or guardians book. Camps use their own dates and are never linked to a term.
This guide explains how the pieces fit together. For step-by-step setup, follow the linked guides for each lesson type.
Term-based scheduling vs standalone camps
CourtSync splits scheduling into two models:
| Terms | Camps | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An academy-wide enrollment period (e.g. "Spring 2026") | A standalone multi-day program with its own dates |
| Lesson types | Group lessons; term-bound private 1-on-1 | Camp instances only |
| Where you manage it | Terms in the owner sidebar | Camps in the owner sidebar |
| Schedule | Recurring weekdays within the term's start and end dates | Per-camp start date, days of week, and session times |
| Typical pricing | Term price; optional per-session drop-in on group lessons | Camp day price and/or camp full price |
Private lessons can be term-bound (recurring slot across a term) or standalone packages (fixed session dates, no term). Standalone private lessons and all camps are created outside the term model.
Terms are academy-wide — one term can hold group and private lessons for tennis, pickleball, padel, and your other active sports. Each lesson is tagged with one sport; the term itself is not sport-specific.
Create a term
- Go to Terms in the owner sidebar
- Click Create Term
- Enter a name, start date, and end date
- Optionally set a registration deadline or max capacity
- Save the term
After saving, open the term to add group or term-bound private lessons from its lesson list. You can also copy lessons from a previous term when starting a new season.
Students or guardians booking a group lesson enroll for the full term by default. You can offer per-session drop-in pricing so they can book the next available session instead — see Creating group lessons.
Where to create each lesson type
Use the right area of the dashboard for each offering:
| Lesson type | Create from | Requires a term? | Detailed guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group | Terms → open a term → Create Lesson, or Calendar → Create Lesson | Yes | Creating group lessons |
| Term-bound private | Terms → open a term → Create Lesson, or Calendar → Create Lesson | Yes | Creating private lessons |
| Standalone private package | Calendar → Create Lesson → Standalone package | No | Creating private lessons |
| Camp | Camps → New camp (single or multiple camps wizard) | No | Creating camp lessons |
Camps are not created from Terms or the term lesson form — only group and private lesson types appear there.
Calendar is the shared schedule view for term lessons, standalone private packages, and session-level edits. Use it when you need to add or change a single session, or create a lesson without opening a term first.
Fields shared across lesson types
Regardless of type, most lessons need:
- Name and description
- Sport (when your academy runs more than one racquet sport)
- Coach assignment
- Court and optional location (Professional+ for multiple locations)
- Schedule — days of week, start time, and end time (or explicit session dates for standalone private packages and camps)
- Capacity — maximum number of students
- Age group and skill level — legacy options or custom age groups
- Price — term price or drop-in for group lessons; package or hourly pricing for private; camp day and full-camp rates for camps
Optionally link a lesson to a development program (Professional+ plans) for skill tracking and invitation-only booking rules. Programs are filtered by the lesson's sport.
Booking on your public page
After saving, lessons appear on your public academy page at /academy/:slug/lessons. Camps appear as individual cards alongside other lesson types. Students or guardians can filter by lesson type, location, age group, and sport.
On Starter plans, students or guardians submit a request booking (no member portal or online checkout). On Professional and Enterprise, they book and pay through your public page when Stripe Connect is set up.
Sign in as a student or guardian and complete a test booking to confirm pricing, capacity, and drop-in options work as expected.
